They are small, all wheel drive, turbocharged, with the ability to outdrive a purpose-built rally car…and they run on AnglomOil products. We’re talking about the AnglomOil SXS (side by side) race team.
Lead driver Nathan Chivers has announced the two car team of Can Am Maverick X3’s (the second is driven by his father, Les) will compete in the Australian Off Road Series. It has three rounds. The first is at St. George which is four hours west of Toowoomba.
Round two is the Finke Desert Race from Alice Springs to Finke and back. The third round is at Rainbow in Victoria.
Last year Nathan was in the points to win the title but at Rainbow he was delayed by a technical issue.
The high point of 2017 for him was winning the SXS class in the Finke Desert Race.
The AnglomOil team of Nathan Chivers/Scott O’Connor and Les Chivers/Peter Harris will first be seen in far west Queensland where Nathan says the terrain is relatively flat and very dusty. The course has long straights which don’t suit the CVT-type automatic gearboxes and 900cc three cylinder Rotax engines. The engines have received a boost over last year’s model with horsepower jumping from 154 to 172.
